Stormwater flooding at St Augustine’s Primary School posed a significant challenge, with four classrooms inundated, tiled ceilings collapsed, and debris strewn across the floors. Such an extensive impact in an educational environment highlights the need for specialized restoration to ensure both safety and swift recovery.
Initial Response & Equipment Deployment
Water extraction covered 150m² of saturated vinyl and carpet tiles. On the first day, 11 air movers and five dehumidifiers were installed. By the second day, additional equipment was brought in, increasing the total to:
- 17 air movers
- 8 dehumidifiers
- 1 air scrubber
Drying progress was monitored daily, ensuring optimal results despite the significant storm-related destruction. However, on January 11th, the appointed assessor unexpectedly stood us down. Despite this, the progress achieved demonstrated our expertise and commitment.
Why This Matters
Educational facilities face unique challenges following water damage, including ensuring safety for students and staff. This case emphasizes the importance of deploying specialized teams capable of addressing large-scale flooding effectively. Although external decisions curtailed our efforts, the groundwork we laid was instrumental in mitigating further damage and ensuring a smoother handover for ongoing restoration.
